Our annual Synod Assembly was, once again, a wonderful opportunity to gather with wonderful folks throughout our Northeastern Minnesota Synod. This year's Assembly was held at Breezy Point Resort - a lovely place, and a new venue for us. Bishop Tom Aitken was reelected on the first ballot for a second term as our Bishop with 285 of the 333 legal votes cast.
Well, here I am... almost a YEAR from our last post! So much for my thinking that I'd be constantly updating this blog!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The sky is a robin-egg blue, the thermometer reads in the high 30's, and the huge pile of snow on our birdbath at home is slowly melting down. Dare I believe that spring might actually be around the bend? One can hope!
Hope. What a crucial and amazing concept! This winter has been a long one in our home, filled with fear, frustrations and illness. But.... with 20/20 hindsight I can look back at other times in life and see that spring follows winter. Always! Morning follows night. Always! Easter follows Lent. Always! God promises to be with us. Always!
Hebrews 11:1 reads: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Today I look at the birch tree outside of my window and see branches that appear to be dead. No life to be seen there! In another few weeks that will change. New life will burst out as bright, new leaves. I hope - believing - and I KNOW it will be so. It will be evident. It will be seen. Spring follows winter, whether on the calendar or in our lives. Always!
I hope to see you at our Wednesday Lenten worship in the next few weeks as we journey toward the miracle of Easter. Let us hope together as we celebrate our faith!
Easter is here already! Worship tomorrow is at 10:00 a.m. and it would be wonderful to pack out the house! Our Easter morning worship is awfully wonderful. When Pastor Bruce and Marilyn were in Israel a couple years ago, they visited the spot of Jesus' tomb. While there, they purchased candles that had last been lit at the tomb. On Easter morning we will light those candles once again, reminding
Easter is coming quickly! Our Lenten Devotional Times have been wonderful opportunities to think a little more deeply about this Lenten season that we're going through. Our times of worship include contemplating the pre-Easter story through the eyes of some of the people who may have been walking the dusty streets with Jesus. There are only a couple weeks left of the Noon Soup Luncheons, and then we will be into Holy Week! Check out the "Lenten Services" page for more information.
Also... with Easter coming, we will be passing around a "Flower Sign-up Sheet" for those of you who would like to bring flowers for Easter Sunday
Thanks to the great crew who planned, cooked and served, two seatings of diners had a wonderful corned beef 'n cabbage feast! Over and over again I heard that even those who don't like corned beef LOVED the way this was prepared. Mmmmmmmm... GOOD!
Tonight is "Ash Wednesday," the beginning of the season of Lent. Services - with the imposition of ashes - are tonight at 7:00. It will be a solemn evening, and humbling, as we begin to remember all that God did for us - just bePlease come if you are able.
