These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

A Guide for Prayer
Teach us how to pray, Lord. Teach us to move beyond bowed heads and closed eyes and honestly offer ourselves to you. Teach us how to quiet our minds so that we may hear with You the cries of our own hearts.
(Silent Prayer)
Teach us how to give thanks, Lord. Help us move beyond our false sense of self-sufficiency and pride, and simply be grateful for all we have that we did not earn or deserve.
And if we find nothing for which to be grateful, if we do not feel like giving thanks today, then forgive our arrogance and shortsightedness.
(Silent Prayers of Thanksgiving)
Teach us how to pray for others. Give us enough faith to commend to you those who are sick, those who are lonely, those who are afraid, those who are sorrowful, those who are dying even as they live.
And if we have no one to pray for or care about, if we do not see the needs of others, if we do not pray for them, then, Lord, have mercy upon us.
(Silent Prayers for Others)
Teach us, O Lord, to pray for ourselves. Help us to see ourselves in the light of the love of Jesus, and so realize and discover the value and the meaning of our lives.
Help us to share in prayer of lives with You.
(Silent Prayers for Ourselves)
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen!
